Title
Twin Lake, Big Cottonwood Canon, Utah
Date
Between 1879 and 1884
Description
After Hayden's survey ended in 1879, Jackson established his own studio in Denver. Ever attuned to consumer demands, he specialized in portraiture and landscape photography. Jackson hired others to handle the portraits, but photographed the region himself, sometimes on commission by railroad and mining interests. He possibly made this photograph of Big Cottonwood Canon in the Wasatch Mountains during a commissioned trip to document area mines and railroads, clearly combining his own entrepreneurial interests with those of his patrons.
