Title
C. D. Blodget's Logging Camp, Washington
Date
ca. 1890
Description
The U.S. government settled the West in part by promoting agricultural development, even in areas, such as the Pacific Northwest, that were not ideal for farming. Many settlers in the richly-timbered region often worked as loggers or in sawmills to support their families while still clearing their claims. In this photograph of a logging camp in western Washington, the women and children may have been temporary residents waiting for husbands and fathers.
